Project Manager – Father – Survivor

Hi,

I’m Mohammad, 38, male, living in the UK and working as a project manager for an online food retailer. Happily married with 2 children 1 boy (8) and 1 girl (10).

I mind my own business, go to the gym, cycle, make green smoothies and eat mostly vegan food. Not that I’m a vegan, I just wanted to be healthier. All of a sudden I’m hit with bowel cancer.

Everyone, from the doctors to the nurses to the consultants, would say something like ‘but you’re so young’ and I wouldn’t have anything to say back. I would take it as an insult to suggest that I had done something wrong to be here. But I felt it was a blessing because if I had been older I might not have survived what I had been through.

Bowel Cancer and Me is a blog dedicated to providing information about my experiences as a cancer survivor and as a disabled person. I am not here to give advice on diet, lifestyle, medication or mental health as I am not a professional. However, I hope to offer practical tips and how I manage my condition. Please don’t take this blog to mean that I am the only person who has experienced what I have been through. This blog is meant to help and inspire people to carry on and help their loved ones find ways to help those who need it. If you are in need of advice, please have a word with your Consultant or or GP.

As I write this I am at home recovering, having physiotherapy to help me walk again. I have also had my first visit with the consultant who will be looking after me for the next 5 years, Jackie.

It’s a scary thing, putting yourself out there, but why not? I’ve got nothing to lose and maybe a lot to gain. (Deep breath) Here we go…
